Thursday 20 August, 2009, 4pm – 6pm: Wesley Theatre, Sydney
Tuesday 25 August, 2009, 4pm to 6pm: Queen Victoria Women’s Centre

AIER presents a panel discussion on achieving improved workplace culture in Australia, featuring General Manager of Fair Work Australia, Tim Lee; ACTU President Sharan Burrows; Professor Rob Moodie, Head of the federal government’s Preventative Health Taskforce; and Christina Rich in her first public presentation since her famous case against PricewaterhouseCoopers.

A free seminar, ‘Keeping Ahead of the Game’: Real Fair Work – The Next Frontier will be held in Sydney on Thursday 20 August and in Melbourne on Tuesday 25 August, 2009.

The Fair Work legislation has laid the foundation for the achievement of higher standards of Australian workplace culture.  Improved workplace culture is much needed in Australia.  It is the key to improved business productivity, efficiency, and viability during and post GFC, encourages better workforce health and welfare, and boosts workforce attraction and retention.  It also assists in fostering corporate social responsibility, being a recipient for responsible investment, and strengthens Australia’s role as an international employer, educator, and business partner of choice.

The event marks the launch of AIER’s latest publication Australian Standard of Employment Rights, a ‘how-to guide’ for Australian employers, employees and workplace participants generally to achieve improved workplace culture. Authored by Rhodes Scholar, Joanna Howe, edited by Professor Joellen Riley, and assisted by a steering committee of leading experts in the field of Australian workplace relations, this handbook expands on the Institute’s ten fundamental principles contained in its Standard, and provides a comprehensive and practical framework for responsible workplace relationships and sound human resources practice.
